Sensory playdough recipe

This playdough recipe is super easy to make and taste safe (not edible) it takes me around 15 minutes to make a batch from start to finish.
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • Lavender petals, lemon zest, chopped rosemary or a non toxic (food grade) essential oil such as peppermint
Place all of the dry ingredients into the bowl and mix.
Add in the boiling water and stir. You can add the food colouring directly to the boiling water if you prefer for nice, easy colour mixing (this way tends to stain the hands less)
If you want different colours, you can add the food colouring at the end into the divided playdough.
I recommend gel colours as opposed to liquid as they are more vibrant, or if using liquid colours add them as part of the volume of water so as not to end up with a sticky dough due to too much liquid.
The dough will keep in an airtight container for around a month.
